Patrick Maswanganyi and his Bahrain-based club Al Khaldiya celebrated a crucial breakthrough on Wednesday night after recording their first victory in the AFC Asian Champions League. The team staged an impressive comeback to defeat Al-Wahda FC 2-1 away from home.

Al Khaldiya entered the encounter under pressure after collecting just one point from their opening three group matches. They had also suffered a 2-1 defeat against Al-Wahda in their previous meeting a week earlier.

The Bahrain outfit found themselves trailing once again when former Premier League striker Christian Benteke scored for the hosts in the 55th minute.

However, the introduction of South African midfielder Patrick Maswanganyi, popularly known as Tito, proved significant. The former Orlando Pirates star came on in the 65th minute, and his teammates responded almost immediately.

Mohamed Al Romaihi restored parity just two minutes after Maswanganyi entered the field. Saifeddine Bouhra then completed the comeback in the 72nd minute, securing a memorable 2-1 victory.

The result lifts Al Khaldiya to four points after four matches in Group A, while Al-Wahda remain top of the standings with nine points despite suffering their first defeat.

Al Khaldiya still have two matches remaining against Nasaf and Al Kuwait as they continue their pursuit of a knockout-stage qualification spot.

Maswanganyi joined the Bahrain club from Orlando Pirates in August after becoming a fan favourite at the Soweto giants. The 28-year-old attacking midfielder has adapted well to life abroad and continues to make his presence felt.

His latest appearance will undoubtedly encourage South African supporters, particularly those following his progress with Bafana Bafana.

With two crucial fixtures remaining, Al Khaldiya will hope to build on Wednesday's comeback victory and keep their qualification ambitions alive. Tito's contribution could prove increasingly important as the club looks to finish the group stage strongly.
