Wandile Duba was the star of the show, scoring a hat-trick as Kaizer Chiefs beat TS Galaxy 3-0 at FNB Stadium to book their place in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals.
Amakhosi welcomed back defender Rushwin Dortley, who had been out with an injury since March 2025, while captain Brandon Petersen also returned to the starting line-up. TS Galaxy made changes of their own, handing goalkeeper Melusi Mathebula his club debut and resting Ira Tape.
Galaxy started the match well, dictating the tempo and keeping Chiefs in their own half, although they did not create any meaningful scoring chances. As the half went on, Chiefs grew in confidence and found their footing. In the 14th minute, Duba missed a glaring chance after a precise through pass from Mfundo Vilakazi.
Chiefs kept pushing forward but could not take their chances, while the visitors failed to maintain their promising first ten minutes. The half ended quietly with few chances at either end, and the score remained 0-0 at the break.
The Glamour Boys made a bright start to the second half and broke the deadlock early, when Duba fired home from close range after a neat setup by Pule Mmodi.
Eager to double their lead, the Soweto giants kept pressing in the final third, and their persistence paid off in the 60th minute when Amakhosi were awarded a penalty after Zulu fouled Mduduzi Shabalala inside the box. Goalkeeper Mathebula denied Vilakazi from the spot, but Duba was the quickest to react and slammed home the rebound.
Duba completed his hat-trick in the 65th minute, running onto a through ball from Shabalala and beating the advancing goalkeeper. With the result already secure, Amakhosi comfortably took their foot off the gas.
Chiefs now turn their attention to a massive Betway Premiership Soweto Derby against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates, set for Saturday, 31 October, at FNB Stadium.
