Kaizer Chiefs Legend Itumeleng Khune Reveals Why Elias Mokwana Could Transform Amakhosi’s Attack

Kaizer Chiefs legend Itumeleng Khune believes Elias Mokwana could provide Amakhosi with an important attacking option as the club looks to strengthen its offensive capabilities. The former goalkeeper has highlighted the potential value Mokwana could bring to the team, particularly through his attacking qualities and ability to offer the coaches another choice in the forward positions.

Mokwana's possible contribution to Kaizer Chiefs presents an interesting talking point for supporters who want to see the club become more effective in the final third. Having additional attacking options can help a team approach matches with greater flexibility, especially when facing opponents who defend deep or attempt to limit opportunities in dangerous areas.

Khune's assessment also reflects the importance of having players who can provide different solutions during difficult matches. In modern football, teams often need more than one approach to break down opposition defences. Players who offer pace, movement and attacking energy can create opportunities, stretch defensive lines and give their teammates more space to operate.

Khune made his position clear while speaking to Andile Ncube on Soccerzone, where he praised Mokwana's abilities and explained why he could be a strong addition to the Soweto-based club.

“Definitely! Mokwana reminds me of Jabu “Shuffle” Pule back then, formerly then, but now Mahlangu,” Khune said.

The former Chiefs captain continued by highlighting the winger's confidence and attacking potential. “Very skilful, he’s not shy to take on players. He can create goals; he can score goals.”

Mokwana is currently a free agent after ending his association with Tunisian club Espérance de Tunis in September. He also spent the previous season on loan at Saudi Arabian side Al Hazem. A proposed move to Moroccan club Wydad Athletic Club reportedly collapsed, leaving his future uncertain. Reports indicate that his representatives have presented him as a potential signing for Kaizer Chiefs. iDiski Times +1

Khune believes Mokwana's experience outside South Africa could be particularly beneficial to a Chiefs squad containing younger players. Having competed in different football environments, the winger could share his knowledge and help his teammates understand what is required to succeed at continental level.

“These young boys will be looking up to him, and he’ll be holding their hands to say, ‘guys, come with me, let’s go back to continental football I know what it’s all about’,” Khune added.

He concluded his endorsement by stressing the potential long-term impact of bringing the winger to Naturena. “And definitely he’ll be a great addition and take the club forward.”

Mokwana previously played for Sekhukhune United before moving abroad. During his time with Espérance, he made 38 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. His experience and attacking output could make him an appealing option for Chiefs as they consider ways to improve their squad. iDiski Times +1

However, Khune's recommendation does not mean a deal has been finalised. The club's management must still determine whether Mokwana fits its plans and whether an agreement can be reached. For now, the former goalkeeper has made his view clear: he believes the winger has the quality, experience and creativity to help Kaizer Chiefs move forward.
