Lepasa Returns as Siwelele Receive Major Boost Ahead of Chiefs Clash
Siwelele FC have received a timely boost with experienced striker Zakhele Lepasa returning from injury and making his first appearance since April, giving the club renewed hope as they look to improve their fortunes in the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.
The 29-year-old forward made his long-awaited comeback during Siwelele’s 3-2 defeat against Marumo Gallants at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium on Friday, 30 October. Although the result was disappointing for the Bloemfontein-based outfit, Lepasa’s return provided a positive development for head coach Godfrey Mosoetsa.
Lepasa was introduced in the 84th minute as Siwelele searched for a late equaliser. However, Marumo Gallants held on to secure all three points, leaving Siwelele to reflect on a frustrating evening.
Despite the defeat, having the former Orlando Pirates striker back in action represents an important step forward for a team that has struggled to find consistency in front of goal.
Lepasa’s return comes after a difficult period on the sidelines, with an ankle injury and subsequent surgery disrupting his progress. His absence limited his opportunities to contribute, but the striker will now be determined to regain full fitness and establish himself as an important figure in Siwelele’s attacking plans.
The forward brings valuable experience to the squad, having previously represented Orlando Pirates and earned 18 caps for Bafana Bafana. He was also part of the South African national team that secured a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, held in Ivory Coast in early 2024.
His experience could prove particularly important as Siwelele attempt to climb the league standings and become more effective in the final third.
According to reports by iDiski Times, Siwelele have scored nine goals in their opening nine league matches, with Michael Nguessan and Vincent Pule leading the club's scoring charts on two goals apiece. These numbers underline the importance of finding additional attacking solutions as the season progresses.
Siwelele currently occupy 14th position with six points from nine matches, placing pressure on the team to deliver improved results.
Mosoetsa will hope Lepasa can gradually regain his sharpness and provide greater competition among the club's attacking options. However, the striker will need time and consistent match fitness before supporters can expect him to reproduce his best performances.
The timing of his comeback is also significant, with Siwelele preparing for a Carling Knockout encounter against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Friday.
Chiefs will enter the contest looking to respond after their Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates, meaning Siwelele face another demanding challenge.
For Lepasa, the immediate priority will be rebuilding his fitness, earning more minutes and helping his team turn promising performances into positive results. His return may not solve every problem overnight, but it gives Siwelele another experienced attacking option at a crucial stage of their campaign.
