Mandla Ncikazi Breaks Silence After Sundowns Knock Golden Arrows Out of Cup

Golden Arrows head coach Mandla Ncikazi offered no excuses after seeing his side crashed out of the Carling Knockout Cup at the hands of a clinical Mamelodi Sundowns outfit at Loftus Versfeld on Tuesday evening.

In what promised to be an explosive cup tie, Golden Arrows pushed hard to unsettled the hosts on their home turf. However, the sheer quality and razor-sharp execution of the Chloorkop side proved to be the ultimate decider, punishing even the smallest defensive lapses from Abafana Bes'thende.

Speaking during his post-match media briefing, an uncompromising Ncikazi refused to hide behind bad luck or controversial referee decisions, admitting that elite teams only need a single moment to change the course of a knockout fixture.

"They scored from their half-chance, but no ifs and buts, we go home, try and make the team better, that’s why we are coaches," Ncikazi candidly stated after the match.

The defeat marks a painful exit for Arrows, who entered the competition eager to mount a serious cup run. Throughout the ninety minutes, Ncikazi's men showed flashes of discipline and transition threat, but their inability to turn promising build-up play into clear-cut goals ultimately left them exposed to Sundowns' lethal counter-attacking efficiency.

Sundowns made the most of their surgical precision, capitalizing on a key opening in the half to put the game out of reach. While Arrows created moments of pressure, the failure to pounce on tight half-chances stood in stark contrast to Sundowns' cold-blooded finishing in front of goal.

Despite the bitter disappointment of leaving Pretoria empty-handed, Ncikazi remains steadfast in his commitment to refine the squad's edge as domestic league duties resume. The veteran strategist emphasized that high-stakes matches against South Africa’s finest serve as the ultimate yardstick for growth.

With the Carling Knockout chapter now closed for Golden Arrows, the technical team turns its full focus toward fixing operational flaws, sharpening offensive output, and ensuring the team rebounds stronger in upcoming Premiership fixtures.
