South African attacking duo Devin Titus and Tshegofatso Mabasa endured another disappointing evening in Morocco after their club, Maghreb Fes, suffered a 1-0 defeat against Wydad Sportive Témara in the Botola Pro on Sunday evening.
The two South Africans were unable to help their team avoid defeat as Maghreb Fes struggled to find a response after conceding an early goal. It was a frustrating result for the Moroccan side, especially after their recent success in the CAF Champions League qualifying campaign.
Titus started the match and remained on the pitch for 76 minutes before being substituted. Mabasa was also included in the starting line-up but his evening came to an end at half-time when he was taken off as the team prepared for the second period.
Despite having both South African attackers available, Maghreb Fes could not find the goal they needed to get something out of the match. The defeat means the team will have to work harder to improve their performances in the coming league fixtures.
Maghreb Fes entered Sunday's encounter with confidence after securing qualification for the CAF Champions League group stages. They achieved that milestone by defeating ASEC Mimosas 2-1 on aggregate, allowing them to progress to the next stage of the continental competition.
However, their performances in the domestic league have not been as positive in recent weeks. Sunday's result means Maghreb Fes have now gone three consecutive matches without a victory. Their failure to collect points has also affected their position on the Botola Pro standings.
The defending Moroccan champions have dropped to seventh place with eight points after playing six matches. They are now five points behind league leaders KACM, leaving them with work to do if they want to close the gap at the top of the table.
Wydad Sportive Témara made the perfect start to the match and found the breakthrough in the 13th minute. Zakaria Oulbenna scored the only goal of the encounter, giving his team an important advantage early in the game.
Maghreb Fes had the remainder of the match to search for an equaliser, but they could not find a way past their opponents. Oulbenna's goal eventually proved decisive, helping Témara secure all three points and move up to fourth place in the standings.
For Titus and Mabasa, the attention will now turn to their next opportunity to help Maghreb Fes return to winning ways. The two attackers will be hoping to make a stronger contribution when the team returns to action.
Maghreb Fes are scheduled to host Fath Union Sport on Saturday, 7 November. They will be looking to end their three-match winless run, improve their league position and give their supporters something positive to celebrate.
