Mourinho Fires Shots At LaLiga! Real Madrid Coach Unhappy With Three Games And Three Travels In Seven Days
Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has openly criticised the scheduling of his team's upcoming fixtures, expressing frustration over a demanding run of matches that will require the Spanish giants to play three away games in just seven days.
The Portuguese tactician believes his players have been given insufficient recovery time between important encounters, particularly because of the travelling involved. His comments have placed the spotlight on the demands placed on elite footballers and the responsibility of football authorities to consider player welfare when arranging fixtures.
Mourinho made his feelings clear during his press conference ahead of Real Madrid's LaLiga meeting with Racing Santander. The coach pointed out that his team would face Racing, travel to Greece to meet AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League and then return to domestic action against Valencia.
All three matches will take place away from home, creating a difficult period for a squad expected to compete for major honours on several fronts.
The Real Madrid manager was particularly unhappy with the decision to bring forward the Valencia fixture and the limited time available for recovery after the Champions League trip.
“We had to play tomorrow, we play today. We had to play Sunday in Valencia, we play Saturday,” Mourinho explained.
He continued by highlighting the travelling demands facing his players.
“Three games with three travels in seven days, two days less to recover.”
Mourinho then delivered a sarcastic response to the scheduling arrangement, describing it as a gift.
“It’s a big gift we are receiving. Thanks. We hope to make them sad.”
His remarks were directed at the scheduling decisions, with the coach suggesting that the congested programme would make an already difficult sequence of fixtures even more challenging.
Real Madrid's schedule leaves little room for extended recovery sessions or lengthy tactical preparations.
The trip to Racing Santander will test the team in a competitive LaLiga environment, before attention turns to the Champions League encounter against AEK Athens in Greece.
The final assignment will see Madrid travel to the Mestalla to face Valencia, another fixture that could demand significant physical and mental energy.
Mourinho will have to consider squad rotation carefully to ensure that his key players remain fresh enough to compete throughout the demanding period.
The manager has previously explained that modern football requires coaches to manage their squads rather than depend on the same starting eleven for every match.
Despite his frustration, Mourinho has made it clear that Real Madrid's main objective remains winning the league title.
The club recently secured a significant 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the El Clásico, but the coach has warned that such a result will mean little if the team fails to collect points in subsequent matches.
For Madrid supporters, the coming week will therefore be an important test of the squad's depth, discipline and ability to manage pressure.
