Kaizer Chiefs defender Inacio Miguel could face further consequences following his dismissal during Saturday's Soweto Derby defeat against Orlando Pirates, with the red card leaving the Angolan international in an uncomfortable position at Naturena.
The experienced centre-back was sent off late in the encounter after receiving a second yellow card for a bookable offence in stoppage time. His dismissal came at a difficult moment for Amakhosi, who were already chasing an equaliser against their biggest rivals at the FNB Stadium.
The Soweto Derby ended in a 2-1 victory for Orlando Pirates, extending the Buccaneers' impressive run of results against their traditional rivals.
Miguel had initially been an important figure in the Chiefs defence, helping his team deal with Pirates' attacking threats. However, his disciplinary problems became a major talking point as the match approached its conclusion.
The defender had already received a yellow card earlier in the game before committing another bookable offence, leaving the referee with little option but to show him a second yellow and subsequently a red card.
His dismissal not only weakened Chiefs defensively during the closing stages but could also affect the team's plans for their upcoming Betway Premiership fixtures.
Under the competition's disciplinary regulations, a player dismissed after receiving two yellow cards is required to serve an automatic suspension. Consequently, Miguel will be unavailable for Chiefs' next domestic fixture, subject to the applicable disciplinary rules.
The situation is particularly important for head coach Fernando Da Cruz, who will now have to consider alternative defensive arrangements while his experienced centre-back serves his suspension.
Miguel has been an important member of the Amakhosi defensive setup, and his absence could force the technical team to make changes to its preferred centre-back partnership.
There is also the possibility of further disciplinary scrutiny if the relevant football authorities identify any additional offence beyond the two bookable incidents. However, no additional punishment should be assumed without an official decision.
For Kaizer Chiefs, the immediate priority will be recovering from the derby disappointment and preparing for their next assignment without one of their regular defensive options.
The defeat against Orlando Pirates was another frustrating result for Amakhosi, who will be desperate to return to winning ways and close the gap on the leading teams in the Betway Premiership.
Miguel's suspension therefore comes at an inconvenient time for the Naturena outfit, with supporters hoping the team can cope with his absence.
