ARTHUR ZWANE BREAKS SILENCE ON AMAZULU'S TITLE AMBITIONS AFTER SIX CONSECUTIVE WINS
DURBAN, SOUTH AFRICA – 3 NOVEMBER 2026
AmaZulu FC head coach Arthur Zwane has explained why his team are refusing to discuss the possibility of winning the Betway Premiership title despite enjoying an impressive run of six consecutive victories.
Usuthu have emerged as one of the most exciting teams in South African football this season, with their recent performances putting them firmly in the conversation among the league's leading contenders.
Their latest achievement came last weekend when they secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over provincial rivals Golden Arrows in the Durban Derby at Princess Magogo Stadium.
Leading goalscorer Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya found the back of the net to secure all three points, extending AmaZulu's winning streak to six matches across all competitions.
The result has strengthened their position in third place on the league table, leaving them just four points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, despite the growing excitement surrounding the club, Zwane is determined to keep his players focused on their immediate objectives rather than getting carried away by title discussions.
"Right now, we don't want to talk about league contenders or what. We are taking one game at a time," Zwane explained.
The AmaZulu coach revealed that the club's primary ambition is to secure qualification for continental football next season, believing that competing in Africa will be important for the development of the squad and the club's long-term ambitions.
"But the mandate from our side is that we have to go to African football next season, because we have been growing gradually and testing ourselves much better at that level so that these boys can grow and the value of the club," he added.
Zwane also reflected on the painful lessons from last season, revealing that AmaZulu lost approximately 15 points through late defensive mistakes and missed opportunities.
He recalled disappointing results against Golden Arrows, Magesi, Polokwane City, Kaizer Chiefs and Sekhukhune United, where the team failed to protect promising positions.
According to the coach, those experiences have helped his players develop greater tactical discipline and maturity.
"When you compare us this season and last season, now we can hold on; we make mistakes, but not punishable ones. But trust me, once we score, we make life difficult for you. Why? Because there is chemistry; there is a tactical understanding," he said.
The coach also suggested that missing out on continental football last season gave the club an opportunity to rebuild and strengthen the squad.
Although Zwane continues to avoid title conversations, AmaZulu's performances are increasingly making them a team to watch.
With six successive victories already secured, Usuthu will be hoping to maintain their momentum and turn their impressive start into a serious push for continental qualification.
For now, Zwane wants his players to concentrate on one match at a time, but their position near the summit means the title conversation is unlikely to disappear anytime soon.
