Pitso Mosimane has weighed in on the decision to leave Aden McCarthy out of the latest Bafana Bafana squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, despite the defender recently making an impression with his performances at club level.

McCarthy attracted attention after finding the back of the net in the UEFA Champions League, an achievement that has increased interest in his progress. His scoring contribution in Europe's premier club competition has also raised questions among supporters about why he was not included in the national team selection.

The defender's omission has become a talking point, particularly with Bafana Bafana preparing for important qualifying matches. Given his recent involvement in European football, some followers expected him to receive an opportunity to represent the country.

However, Mosimane has provided an explanation for the selection decision, offering his perspective on why McCarthy did not make the squad. His comments have brought attention to the considerations that influence national team selections, where performances at club level are only part of the factors taken into account.

While McCarthy missed out, Mbekezeli Mbokazi was among the players who received a recall to the Bafana Bafana setup. His return represents another defensive option for the national team as preparations continue for the upcoming fixtures.

The latest selection has once again highlighted the competition for places in the squad, with several South African players hoping to establish themselves at international level.

For McCarthy, the omission could serve as motivation to maintain his performances and strengthen his chances of earning a future call-up. His recent Champions League contribution has already brought him into the spotlight, and further consistent displays could keep him in contention.

Mosimane's explanation has therefore added another dimension to the discussion surrounding the defender's absence from the squad.
