Cristiano Ronaldo’s investment club, UD Almería, has announced a heartfelt initiative to support the family of Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel, who tragically died at the age of 30 following an on-field collision.
The Spanish club confirmed that all proceeds generated from ticket sales for its upcoming home match against CD Tenerife will be donated to the late striker’s family.
De Miguel passed away on Tuesday, 3 November, after suffering a serious collision during a match between Tenerife and FC Andorra. Despite receiving immediate medical attention and being rushed to hospital, the striker could not be saved. He leaves behind his wife and young daughter.
Although Ronaldo owns a 25% stake in Almería through his CR7 Sports Investments company, the club credited its president, Mohammed Al Khereiji, with initiating the donation.
The upcoming fixture against Tenerife will take place during matchday 34 of the LaLiga Hypermotion season. The exact amount of the donation has not been disclosed, as it will depend on the number of tickets sold.
In its official statement, Almería explained that the gesture reflects its commitment to humanitarian values and solidarity within the football community.
The club acknowledged that financial assistance cannot replace a loved one or erase the pain of losing someone. However, it emphasised that football should represent more than trophies, victories and competition.
Almería has also invited De Miguel’s family to attend the match, should their circumstances allow, as another expression of support and remembrance.
The tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout Spanish football, with clubs, players and supporters expressing their condolences. UD Las Palmas has also announced plans to honour De Miguel by wearing a special third kit during its upcoming match against CD Eldense.
Almería’s decision is particularly meaningful because Tenerife, the club De Miguel represented, will be its opponent. The fixture will therefore carry emotional significance beyond the league standings.
The donation will provide practical assistance to De Miguel’s loved ones during an incredibly difficult period, while demonstrating that football can unite people beyond club rivalries.
As the two teams prepare to meet, the focus will extend beyond the final score. Almería’s gesture serves as a powerful reminder that compassion and solidarity remain among the most important values in the beautiful game.
