Our Hearts Are Broken Kaizer Chiefs Release Emotional Statement Following Horrific On-Pitch Tragedy

KAIZER CHIEFS JOIN GLOBAL FOOTBALL COMMUNITY IN MOURNING FOLLOWING TRAGIC DEATH OF JESÚS DE MIGUEL

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 4 NOVEMBER 2026

Kaizer Chiefs have joined the global football community in mourning following the tragic death of Spanish footballer Jesús de Miguel, who passed away at the age of 30 after suffering a serious medical emergency during a match involving CD Tenerife and FC Andorra.

The Soweto giants expressed their condolences through an emotional message, extending their support to the late player's family, teammates, former colleagues and everyone affected by the heartbreaking incident.

In their tribute, Amakhosi acknowledged the devastating loss and conveyed their sympathy to the Spanish clubs involved, particularly CD Tenerife and FC Andorra, as football continues to come to terms with the tragedy.

"Our deepest condolences to the family of Jesús de Miguel, CD Tenerife, FC Andorra and all who loved him.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragic loss. May His Soul Rest In Peace," Kaizer Chiefs stated.

The tragic incident occurred during a Spanish second-division encounter between Tenerife and Andorra on Monday, 2 November 2026.

De Miguel was involved in a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono, who had rushed out of his goal to challenge for the ball.

The incident left the Tenerife forward seriously injured, prompting an immediate response from medical personnel. He was subsequently transported to hospital for urgent medical attention.

Although initial reports indicated that his condition was stable despite the seriousness of his injuries, his health later deteriorated.

CD Tenerife confirmed his death on Tuesday, 3 November, sending shockwaves throughout Spanish football and beyond.

The 30-year-old's passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from football clubs, players, administrators and supporters across the world.

FC Andorra also expressed its heartbreak, offering condolences to De Miguel's family, teammates and everyone associated with Tenerife.

Several major European clubs have equally paid tribute, demonstrating how football can unite people beyond nationalities, rivalries and sporting competitions.

Kaizer Chiefs' message reflects the solidarity within the football fraternity, with the South African club joining organisations across the world in honouring the memory of the late striker.

While football is often defined by competition, trophies and rivalries, moments such as these remind everyone involved in the beautiful game that human life is far more important than results.

As tributes continue to pour in, the thoughts of the football community remain with De Miguel's family and loved ones during this difficult period.

May Jesús de Miguel rest in eternal peace.
