Real Madrid manager José Mourinho has offered his assessment of Vinicius Jr's performance following the club's dramatic 3-2 victory over AEK Athens in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.
The Brazilian winger returned to the starting lineup but struggled to produce his usual attacking brilliance during an entertaining encounter in Greece.
Speaking after the match, Mourinho described Vinicius' performance as acceptable rather than exceptional, while making it clear that the entire team had also fallen short of an extraordinary display.
"Vini had an acceptable match tonight. Not extraordinary, just like the whole team," Mourinho said.
Despite the relatively measured assessment, the Portuguese manager did not place the responsibility for the team's difficulties on the Brazilian forward.
Vinicius was eventually substituted in the second half as Mourinho introduced fresh attacking options to change the team's approach and manage player fitness ahead of their next fixture.
Real Madrid had to fight hard for all three points after falling behind twice against a determined AEK Athens side.
Jude Bellingham and Kylian Mbappé helped Madrid get back into the contest before Federico Valverde scored a dramatic late winner to complete the comeback.
The victory keeps Real Madrid's Champions League campaign on track, with the Spanish side collecting another valuable three points.
Mourinho's comments also highlight his expectations of Vinicius, who remains an important figure in Madrid's attacking plans.
The Brazilian will now have another opportunity to demonstrate his quality as Real Madrid turn their attention to their upcoming domestic commitments.
