Court officials have announced that a judge will initiate an investigation into the death of Spanish footballer Jesus de Miguel.
The 30-year-old striker from Tenerife passed away in the hospital this morning after a devastating collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono.
Owono received a red card for the incident, which involved his knee striking the father-of-one in the chest near the halfway line during stoppage time.
The match in the second division, which was tied at 2-2 prior to the shocking event, was subsequently suspended.
The tragic Jesus, whose partner Maria and one-year-old daughter Carla were present in the stands, was revived by paramedics on the field after suffering cardiac arrest, then transported to the hospital.
His club announced around 9:30 AM local time today that he died at a hospital in Santa Cruz, the capital of Tenerife, around 8 AM.

The club stated, after earlier revealing that the footballer’s neurological condition had deteriorated: “Heartbroken, with a lump in our throats, and finding it hard to believe this is real.
“CD Tenerife announces the untimely passing of Jesus de Miguel Alameda, which took place on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 8 AM.
“No words can provide comfort; nothing can ease this profound sense of sorrow.
“We stand in solidarity with his grieving family, loved ones, and the entire ‘tinerfeñismo’ community, who are mourning this devastating loss today.
“Jesus de Miguel’s family expresses their deep gratitude for every gesture of support they’ve received, and they earnestly request the utmost respect for their privacy during these difficult times.”
Today, officials in Tenerife have confirmed that a court investigation will be started, although it’s anticipated that the goalkeeper responsible for the striker’s death will face no criminal charges but will instead receive a lengthy suspension.
A source from a Canary Islands court described the incident between the two players as “an accidental collision during the match.”
However, they added: “Any death not classified as natural, referred to as a ‘forensic death’, regardless of whether it’s accidental or otherwise, necessitates a judicial inquiry, which applies in this situation.”
This morning, it was unclear whether Jesus’ family would pursue their own criminal case against the goalkeeper.
Owono is reportedly hoping to apologise to the family before making any public comments.
FC Andorra, in response to the tragic news of the Tenerife striker’s hospital death, stated: “Heartbroken and devastated, we extend our deepest condolences to the family of Jesus de Miguel, all his colleagues and friends, and to CD Tenerife.
“May he rest in peace.”
