Chiefs Reportedly Complete Another Major Signing

Chiefs Complete Major Signing As Elias Mokwana Returns To Naturena On Free Transfer

Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed the signing of Bafana Bafana international Elias Mokwana, delivering a major boost to their attacking department as they continue rebuilding their squad for the 2026/27 campaign.

The 27-year-old winger joins Amakhosi as a free agent after spending the past two seasons abroad, bringing valuable experience from Tunisia and Saudi Arabia back to the Betway Premiership.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, November 4, through the club's official communication channels, bringing an end to days of speculation surrounding the former Sekhukhune United attacker's future.

Mokwana had been linked with a move to Naturena after becoming available following his departure from Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis in September. Reports indicated that Chiefs had agreed personal terms with the player before completing the necessary formalities.

His arrival represents a significant addition for head coach Fernando Da Cruz, who has been looking for more attacking quality, pace and creativity to make his team less predictable.

Mokwana first established himself as an exciting attacking talent during his time at Sekhukhune United, where his performances attracted interest from several clubs.

In August 2024, he secured a move to Espérance, one of Tunisia's biggest football clubs. He enjoyed success during his time there, helping the team win the domestic league and cup double in the 2024/25 campaign.

He also lifted the Tunisian Super Cup and gained valuable experience at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

During the 2025/26 season, Mokwana continued his development on loan at Saudi Arabian side Al-Hazem, making 24 appearances in the Saudi Pro League.

His experience outside South Africa is expected to benefit Chiefs, particularly because he has already competed in different football environments and at continental level.

According to a report published by Sports With Daily News on October 31, Mokwana agreed to a three-year contract with Kaizer Chiefs.

However, the club's official announcement did not disclose the length of his contract, his signing-on fee or his monthly salary. No verified salary figures have been publicly confirmed, meaning supporters should be cautious about unsubstantiated financial claims circulating online.

What is confirmed is that Chiefs have secured his services on a free transfer, meaning they did not have to negotiate a transfer fee with Espérance for the player's registration.

The winger is known for his pace, direct running and ability to take on defenders. He can operate on either flank, giving Da Cruz additional options when selecting his attacking combinations.

Mokwana has also represented Bafana Bafana, earning 11 senior international caps after making his debut against Andorra in March 2024. He was part of South Africa's squad at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

For Chiefs, the signing comes at an important moment following an inconsistent start to the season and their recent 2-1 Soweto Derby defeat to Orlando Pirates.
