Cairo International Stadium Set for Temporary Closure as Major Renovation Works Loom

Cairo International Stadium is expected to close its doors soon to undergo renovation and maintenance works aimed at improving the quality of its playing surface and maintaining the facility's standards.

The development is expected to affect the scheduling of football matches at one of Egypt's most famous sporting venues, with clubs potentially required to make alternative arrangements while the work is underway.

According to reports, the stadium is scheduled to close for approximately one month immediately after Zamalek's CAF Champions League group-stage encounter against Tunisia's Club Africain on November 28.

The planned work will reportedly focus on planting winter grass seeds and improving the overall condition of the playing surface. Stadium authorities are looking to ensure that the pitch remains in excellent condition for upcoming domestic and continental competitions.

Cairo International Stadium remains one of the most recognisable football venues on the African continent. With a seating capacity of approximately 75,000, the historic venue has hosted numerous major domestic, continental and international football encounters.

The planned closure comes at a particularly important period for Egyptian football, as several clubs rely on the stadium to host their high-profile fixtures.

Zamalek's upcoming continental commitments have also attracted attention, particularly after concerns emerged over the possibility of the maintenance schedule affecting their opening CAF Champions League group-stage fixture against Club Africain.

The renovation programme is expected to provide an opportunity to improve the playing conditions and preserve the stadium's reputation as a major football destination.
