Orlando Pirates loanee Daniel Msendami has received a surprise national team call-up despite struggling for regular playing time this season.
The Zimbabwean forward has been included in his country's provisional squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, even though he has managed only 161 minutes of football this season.
According to KickOff on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Msendami's selection has attracted attention because of his limited involvement at club level in recent months.
The 24-year-old was sent out on loan to Marumo Gallants during the latter stages of the previous transfer window after struggling to secure regular opportunities at Orlando Pirates.
However, his move to Gallants has not gone according to expectations, as the Zimbabwean has yet to make an appearance for the club since joining them.
Interestingly, all three of his appearances this season came while he was still with Orlando Pirates. During those matches, he managed to make a contribution by scoring a goal in the Buccaneers' victory over AmaZulu.
Despite his lack of playing time at Marumo Gallants, Zimbabwe head coach Roman Catala has decided to include him in the provisional squad as preparations begin for the upcoming AFCON qualifying campaign.
His selection could provide him with an opportunity to regain confidence and get valuable playing time at international level.
For Msendami, representing Zimbabwe remains an important opportunity, particularly at a time when his club career has not progressed as expected.
Meanwhile, Marumo Gallants have been experiencing difficulties in the current campaign. The club recently secured its first league victory of the season against Siwelele FC on Friday night, giving the team some encouragement after a difficult start.
Msendami will now be hoping that his national team involvement can help him get back into competitive action and improve his situation ahead of the remaining fixtures.
His inclusion also raises questions about how Zimbabwe's technical team views his potential despite his limited minutes at club level.
For Orlando Pirates supporters, the development will be interesting to follow, especially considering that the attacker remains contracted to the Buccaneers and is currently gaining experience away from the club.
The Zimbabwean forward will now be looking to make the most of his national team opportunity and prove that he deserves a place in the final squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifiers.
