Kaizer Chiefs stepped up their preparations for Sunday's Betway Premiership clash against Siwelele FC with a convincing 4-1 victory over National First Division side Upington City in a behind-closed-doors friendly played at FNB Stadium on Thursday.

The Amakhosi players reportedly put in an encouraging display, using the training match to improve their preparations and ensure several squad members gained valuable playing time ahead of their next league fixture.

One of the biggest highlights of the encounter was the appearance of new signing Elias Mokwana, who made an immediate impression following his arrival at Naturena.

The Bafana Bafana winger featured prominently during the match, providing an assist before finding the back of the net late in the game as the Soweto giants secured a comfortable victory.

His impressive contribution is likely to excite Kaizer Chiefs supporters, who are looking forward to seeing how the former Bafana Bafana international strengthens the team's attacking options.

Mokwana's pace, creativity and ability to create scoring opportunities could give head coach Fernando da Cruz another important option in the final third as Amakhosi look to improve their performances during the second half of the campaign.

Mfundo Vilakazi was also among the goalscorers, while Faiz Abrahams delivered an impressive performance by scoring twice to help Chiefs secure the 4-1 win.

The friendly provided Da Cruz and his technical team with an opportunity to experiment with different player combinations, assess individual performances and evaluate the squad's fitness ahead of Sunday's assignment.

Kaizer Chiefs' reported starting XI against Upington City:

Brandon Petersen; Thabo Moloisane, Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley; Dillan Solomons, Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Elias Mokwana; Mduduzi Shabalala, Mfundo Vilakazi; Khanyisa Mayo.

Full-time: Kaizer Chiefs 4-1 Upington City.

Although the primary objective of friendly matches is to prepare players rather than focus on the final score, the convincing result will provide encouragement for the Chiefs technical team.

The attention now turns to Sunday's Betway Premiership meeting with Siwelele FC, where Amakhosi will be hoping to build on their positive performance against Upington City and secure another important result in the league.
