Rassie Erasmus Reacts to Tony Brown’s Decision to Join the All Blacks

Springboks fans will eventually have to say goodbye to one of the key figures behind the team's attacking strategy, but Rassie Erasmus is not losing sleep over it just yet.

The Springboks director of rugby has broken his silence after the All Blacks confirmed that attack coach Tony Brown would join their coaching team in 2028.

Brown, who joined the Springboks coaching setup in 2024, has played an important role in shaping South Africa's attacking game. His departure will undoubtedly be a significant change for the team, but supporters will be relieved to know that he is not leaving immediately.

Under the agreement, Brown will remain with the Springboks until after the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia before heading home to New Zealand on a two-year contract.

Erasmus has seemingly accepted the decision, acknowledging that Brown has ambitions of coaching his home country's national team.

Rather than panic about finding a replacement, the experienced Springboks coach revealed that the team already has a few candidates in mind.

He also made it clear that South Africa intends to make the most of the remaining time with Brown before his departure.

The announcement has added an interesting twist to the famous Springboks-All Blacks rivalry. Brown will eventually find himself working for South Africa's biggest rugby rivals, making his future appointment particularly interesting for fans of both teams.

For now, however, the focus remains on the Springboks' preparations for the 2027 World Cup, with Brown still part of the coaching team.
