Rulani Mokwena Attracts Interest From La Liga Side Valencia CF

Rulani Mokwena continued his successful tenure with Egyptian club Pyramids FC after leading the team to a decisive 4-1 win against El-Gaish in the Egyptian Premier League.

This victory extended Pyramids' winning streak to 11 matches in all competitions and marked their seventh consecutive league win, further solidifying their lead at the top of the table.

Mokwena’s squad returned to domestic play following an away win against El Merriekh from South Sudan in the CAF Champions League, carrying their winning momentum into the league game.

Pyramids started strong, with Mohanad Lasheen scoring just six minutes into the match. This was his second goal of the season, bringing his total contributions to four. The hosts doubled their lead in the 15th minute as Mostafa Ziko found the net, putting Pyramids in a commanding position early on.

El-Gaish responded in the 35th minute when Ahmed Tarek scored to reduce the deficit to 2-1, reigniting the visitors’ hopes of a comeback.

After the break, Pyramids pressed for another goal, and although Youssef Obama seemed to have extended their lead, the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) disallowed his goal after a lengthy review.

Despite this setback, Mokwena's team secured a comfortable win, with Mahmoud Saber scoring their third goal with just ten minutes left in regulation, marking his second goal in four days. Mahmoud Zalaka capped off the scoring by converting a penalty in the 89th minute, finalizing the 4-1 triumph.

This win reportedly puts Pyramids five points ahead of their nearest rivals at the top of the league, though second-placed Al Ahly has a match in hand.

Mokwena will now turn his focus to Saturday’s return match against El Merriekh as Pyramids aim for advancement in the CAF Champions League.

Additionally, there have been rumors linking the South African coach to a potential assistant coaching role at Spanish club Valencia CF, which might come with a monthly salary of R7 million, and it is said that Mokwena has reached personal terms, though official confirmation is still pending. For now, Mokwena’s priority remains on sustaining Pyramids' strong performance and preparing for their upcoming continental challenge.
