Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz believes young attacker Wandile Duba has the potential to grow into a player who can represent South Africa at senior international level.

Duba has continued to draw attention with his performances for Amakhosi, and Da Cruz is pleased with the youngster's progress. The coach has made it clear, though, that Duba will need to be more consistent if he is to reach his full potential. "I am very happy for Duba; he is a young player, and so sometimes he has a lot of ups and downs. He must improve his consistency," Da Cruz said.

The French coach believes Duba has the qualities needed to make the step up. He also accepts that playing regularly at a high level is an important part of the player's development.

Bafana Bafana are always looking to build a strong pool of young talent, and Duba's rise could give coach Hugo Broos another attacking option in the future. For now, the focus is on helping the 21-year-old establish himself at club level.

Da Cruz's words show that the Chiefs camp believes Duba can go beyond domestic football and one day earn international recognition. If he can turn his promising displays into steady performances, he could put himself firmly in contention for a place in the Bafana Bafana squad.
