Former South African football star Steve Lekoelea has praised Bafana Bafana attacker Oswin Appollis, highlighting the qualities he believes have helped the young player establish himself at international level.

Lekoelea urged footballers to follow Appollis’ example, particularly when it comes to maintaining discipline, accepting coaching and developing both physically and mentally.

“Every player should behave like Appollis. In football, to last longer, you must be coachable; you have to be strong physically and mentally,” Lekoelea told KickOff.

The former midfielder also described Appollis as a national star and expressed his belief that the player has demonstrated an ability to perform on the biggest stage.

“Appollis is a national star. Yesterday he showed he can play at the highest level,” Lekoelea added.

Appollis has continued to attract attention with his performances for Bafana Bafana, earning recognition for his technical ability, work rate and confidence when playing against strong opposition.

Lekoelea’s comments underline the importance of attitude and adaptability alongside natural talent. For the former Orlando Pirates and Bafana star, Appollis’ willingness to learn and handle the physical and mental demands of professional football provides an example for other players looking to build long and successful careers.

The praise comes as Appollis continues to develop his reputation as one of South Africa’s emerging international talents.
