Last season, Orlando Pirates’ CAF Champions League journey came to an end, while Mamelodi Sundowns went on to lift the trophy and claim the title of African champions.

However, the 2026/27 campaign has brought a dramatic twist!

Sundowns have suffered a shock exit at the hands of Angola’s Wiliete SC, while Orlando Pirates have secured their place in the group stages in impressive fashion, defeating African Stars 5-0 on aggregate.

The Buccaneers are now South Africa’s only representatives in the CAF Champions League group stages, placing the country’s continental hopes firmly on their shoulders.

Under the guidance of Abdeslam Ouaddou, Pirates will be aiming to make a strong statement and challenge for Africa’s biggest club football prize.

With Sundowns out of the competition, the big question is whether the Sea Robbers can go all the way and bring the CAF Champions League trophy back to South Africa.

Can Orlando Pirates restore the country’s continental pride and make this a memorable campaign?

PIRATES FANS, COULD THIS BE THE SEASON THE BUCCANEERS CONQUER AFRICA?
