Zungu Becomes Face of Tornado in Super League Kerala

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has expressed his perspective on the CAF Champions League format, emphasizing the importance for clubs to adhere to the competition's regulations, even if they differ from European standards.

Despite being the reigning champions after last season's victory, Sundowns must navigate the preliminary rounds in their quest to retain their title. They will face Angolan team Williete SC, making this upcoming match crucial for Cardoso and his squad.

This format contrasts with that of the UEFA Champions League, where defending champions automatically advance without qualifying rounds. This difference has led to discussions about why African champions are required to enter the preliminary stages after winning the previous season’s tournament.

Cardoso, however, believes that teams should prioritize understanding and preparing for the rules rather than questioning the system. He referenced Spanish coach Juanma Lillo, who previously assisted Pep Guardiola, highlighting how Lillo taught him the importance of accepting football regulations.

While Cardoso refrained from specifically addressing the issue of defending champions in the preliminary rounds, he maintained that the existing rules must be respected, urging clubs to focus on achieving their goals.

The Sundowns coach also drew comparisons to various South African competitions, such as the MTN8, Carling Knockout, and Nedbank Cup, each with unique formats and methods of selection.

Currently, Sundowns are focusing on overcoming Williete SC to secure their spot in the group stages of the CAF Champions League, aiming to build on the previous season's success and vie for another continental title.

In related news, former Mamelodi Sundowns and Bafana Bafana midfielder Bongani Zungu has been featured on a billboard in India, representing Tornado, a company sponsoring the Super League Kerala.

Zungu’s presence on the billboard underscores his rising profile beyond South Africa. Having played for multiple clubs, he continues to garner attention from football fans. Tornado’s involvement with the Kerala league provides Zungu with an opportunity to enhance his international visibility in the football market.

His billboard appearance illustrates the potential for South African footballers to expand their reach and recognition beyond their home country, as his partnership with Tornado associates him with a football competition in India, further boosting his international presence.
