Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Sifiso Myeni has urged the Buccaneers to give Norwegian striker Sebastian Pedersen more playing time, arguing that the forward deserves a fair opportunity to prove his quality following his arrival at the Soweto giants.
Pedersen, 27, joined Orlando Pirates from Norwegian club Sogndal during the off-season, signing a two-year contract. However, despite arriving with an impressive goalscoring record, the striker has struggled to secure regular minutes under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, raising questions about his role in the team.
Before moving to South Africa, Pedersen reportedly scored 51 goals in 117 appearances for Sogndal. His statistics suggested that he could become an important attacking option for the Buccaneers as they continue competing for domestic honours and continental success.
Speaking on Omni Audio Africa, Myeni questioned why Pedersen had not received more opportunities, particularly when other strikers have been given chances to contribute. He mentioned Evidence Makgopa, Boitumelo Radiopane and Yanela Mbuthuma, suggesting that the Norwegian forward should also be allowed to demonstrate what he can offer.
According to Myeni, it would be unfair to judge Pedersen's abilities without giving him sufficient time on the pitch. More appearances would allow the technical team to assess his strengths, movement, finishing and ability to adapt to the demands of South African football.
Nevertheless, Pedersen's limited involvement may partly be linked to his adjustment to a new environment. Ouaddou previously indicated that the striker needed time to improve his fitness and settle into the squad.
Moving to a different country and adapting to a new league, playing style and tactical system can take time. Building chemistry with teammates is also essential for a striker who depends on service from midfield and the wings.
Despite these challenges, Myeni believes Pedersen deserves a genuine opportunity to establish himself at Pirates. Whether Ouaddou increases his involvement remains to be seen, but regular minutes could help the striker build confidence and strengthen the club's attacking options.
