Barcelona backed to edge Atletico in Liga showdown despite recent big-game defeats

Barcelona travel to Atletico Madrid on Sunday 8 November 2026 as the two leading sides in La Liga meet at the Wanda Metropolitano, with the visitors priced at 1.89 to win.

The match, which kicks off at 20:00 GMT, has been assessed by Nasser Eddy, a consultant for NCI Sport and presenter of the European Champions League on radio Nostalgie.

Atletico are two points behind the leaders and cannot afford to lose if they are to prevent Barcelona opening up a five-point gap at the top. Diego Simeone’s side remain unbeaten at home in the league this season, although they were beaten 2-0 by Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week.

The defeat came as Atletico’s attacking form showed signs of slowing. They have scored more than once in only one of their past five matches in all competitions, doing so in last weekend’s game at Levante. They have also failed to win more than four corners in any of their past four matches.

Their defensive record remains outstanding, however. Atletico have conceded only eight goals in 11 league games, making them the best defence in La Liga.

Barcelona have scored 46 goals in the same number of league matches, making them the division’s most prolific attack. Their total is twice that of second-placed Real Madrid, while the Catalans are averaging almost four goals per game.

Hansi Flick’s side strengthened that reputation with a 3-0 home win over Aston Villa in the Champions League this week. Their recent corner count has been more modest, with an average of fewer than five won across their past five matches in all competitions.

Raphinha has scored 19 goals this season, including 15 in 10 La Liga appearances, while Lamine Yamal has 13 goals overall, with 10 in the league. Raphinha, who has moved into a central striking role following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, scored two doubles in three days in separate competitions and has recovered from subdued performances against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.

Barcelona have nevertheless lost to both of those opponents recently and have collected at least two yellow cards in each of their past four league matches.

The Catalans lead the overall head-to-head record with 116 wins to Atletico’s 79. They also won both meetings at the Wanda Metropolitano last season, in La Liga and the Champions League, by the same 2-1 scoreline.

The recommended exact score is again 1-2, available at 8.5, while under 8.5 total corners is priced at 2.71. Raphinha is 1.88 to score at any time and Yamal 2.11.

Barcelona’s victory is rated at 1.89. The match begins at 20:00 GMT on Sunday, with odds subject to change.
