Barcelona handed major boost in pursuit of Serie A right-back target

Barcelona have been handed an encouraging development in their efforts to sign Fiorentina right-back Dodo, with the Brazilian defender’s future at the Italian club becoming increasingly uncertain.

According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Dodo could leave Fiorentina when his contract expires at the end of the 2026/27 season, potentially giving Barcelona an opportunity to secure his services without paying a transfer fee in the summer of 2027.

Fiorentina sporting director Fabio Paratici has reportedly acknowledged that the 27-year-old may look for a fresh challenge once the current campaign comes to an end.

Speaking on the situation, Paratici said, as quoted by SPORT: “It’s very clear and always has been. At the end of the season, he will have the legitimate ambition to look for another club.”

He also explained that Fiorentina had been prepared to consider an acceptable offer for the defender but none arrived. The situation reportedly created complications for the player as he prepared for the new season.

Paratici’s comments could encourage Barcelona to intensify their interest in Dodo as they look to improve their defensive options. The Catalan side have experienced problems with squad depth this season, while defeats against Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid have exposed weaknesses within the team.

The injuries suffered by Xavi Espart and Eric Garcia have further highlighted the need for additional cover at right-back, making the Fiorentina defender an attractive option.

Dodo’s attacking ability could offer Hansi Flick a different profile on the right side of defence, particularly compared with the more defensively oriented Eric Garcia. His potential arrival would give Barcelona another option in that position.

The possibility of signing him on a free transfer is also appealing given the club’s financial limitations and the need to remain within La Liga’s financial regulations.

However, Barcelona may not have a clear path to completing the deal, as Juventus and AC Milan are also reportedly monitoring the Brazilian’s situation.

A move during the January transfer window remains a possibility, with Fiorentina potentially considering a sale rather than allowing the defender to leave for nothing when his contract expires next summer.
