The Seagulls delivered an impressive performance at home, controlling possession and creating several goalscoring opportunities to claim all three points. Brentford struggled to recover after losing Igor Thiago to a first-half red card.
Brighton started the contest confidently and immediately took control of possession. Diego Gomez threatened in the eighth minute when he received the ball inside the penalty area following a corner, but his effort narrowly missed the right post.
Brentford responded through Kristoffer Ajer, who connected with a set-piece delivery in the 14th minute. However, his header sailed just over the crossbar. Igor Thiago also tested Brighton goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen with an effort inside the penalty area, but the goalkeeper comfortably collected the ball.
The hosts eventually broke the deadlock in the 15th minute. Gomez collected a loose ball outside the penalty area and unleashed a powerful strike into the top-left corner, leaving Caoimhin Kelleher with no chance of making a save.
The visitors suffered another setback in the 23rd minute when Igor Thiago was sent off following a VAR review. The Brentford forward initially received a yellow card for a challenge, but referee Michael Oliver upgraded the decision to a red card after checking the incident on the pitchside monitor.
Brighton continued to dominate proceedings and increased their advantage shortly before the interval. In the 41st minute, Keane Lewis-Potter committed a foul inside the penalty area, prompting the referee to award the hosts a spot kick.
Pascal Gross stepped forward to take responsibility and calmly converted the penalty in the 42nd minute. His effort found the top-right corner, giving Brighton a comfortable 2-0 lead.
Brentford introduced several substitutes after the restart in an attempt to change the direction of the contest. However, Brighton remained in control and continued creating opportunities.
Yasin Ayari came close to adding a third goal in the second half with efforts from outside the penalty area, but Kelleher prevented further damage. Costinha also missed a promising opportunity when his header sailed over the crossbar.
