Liverpool eye Premier League star as replacement for Alisson - Reports

According to a report by GOAL on Sunday November 8, 2026, Liverpool are considering a move for Brighton & Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen as they begin exploring potential replacements for Alisson Becker, whose future at Anfield remains uncertain.

The Reds are understood to be impressed by the Dutch international's performances in the Premier League and reportedly view him as a leading candidate to take over from Alisson if the Brazilian decides against extending his contract.

According to reports, Verbruggen has attracted the attention of Liverpool's hierarchy following his impressive displays for Brighton in recent months.

The 24-year-old has established himself as an important member of Brighton's squad and has played a significant role in their impressive start to the 2026-27 campaign.

Brighton have conceded just seven goals in their opening nine Premier League matches, with Verbruggen's performances helping the Seagulls occupy third position in the league standings.

His consistency between the posts has reportedly convinced Liverpool that he could be a suitable long-term successor to Alisson.

The situation surrounding the Brazilian goalkeeper is believed to be one of the reasons Liverpool are exploring their options.

Alisson is entering the final months of his current contract at Anfield and could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club from January if he does not agree to an extension.

The 34-year-old remains an important figure at Liverpool, but the club must consider its long-term plans in case he decides to move on when his deal expires.

New Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola has already made it clear that he would prefer Alisson to remain at the club beyond the current season.

Speaking about the goalkeeper's future, Iraola admitted that he was uncertain whether this campaign would be Alisson's last at Anfield.

He said: "I don't know [if this will be Alisson's last season], that is a question you have to ask him. I hope not, I hope he continues with us for more time."

The Spaniard also explained that contract negotiations were matters between the player and the club, suggesting that he could not provide further details about the discussions.

Liverpool already have Giorgi Mamardashvili in their squad after completing his signing from Valencia, but the Georgian goalkeeper has reportedly failed to convince the club that he is ready to become Alisson's permanent replacement.

Although Mamardashvili was brought in with the expectation that he would eventually challenge for the number-one position, Liverpool are reportedly not certain that he should automatically inherit the role if the Brazilian leaves.

That has increased the possibility of the Reds looking elsewhere for another goalkeeper, with Verbruggen emerging as one of their preferred options.

However, Liverpool could face competition for the Brighton star's signature if they decide to make a formal approach.

Bayern Munich are also reportedly monitoring the Dutch goalkeeper as they consider their long-term goalkeeping plans.
