According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Barcelona reportedly changed their transfer plans for Karim Adeyemi after manager Hansi Flick urged the club to bring forward their move for the German attacker.
The Catalan side had initially planned to sign the 24-year-old on a free transfer in the summer of 2027, when his contract situation at Borussia Dortmund could have made the deal possible. However, Flick convinced the club to pursue the signing earlier because he believed Adeyemi could strengthen Barcelona’s attack immediately.
The German manager was already familiar with Adeyemi from their time together with the national team. He recognised the forward’s speed, direct approach and ability to take on defenders, qualities he believed would provide Barcelona with another attacking option.
Barcelona’s plans also changed following developments at Dortmund, where Adeyemi was reportedly warned that refusing to sign a new contract could affect his chances of receiving regular playing time.
Ferran Torres’ move to Paris Saint-Germain created another opportunity in Barcelona’s attack, further strengthening Flick’s reasons for pushing for Adeyemi’s arrival ahead of schedule.
The decision to complete the transfer one year earlier has so far delivered positive results. Adeyemi has recorded four goals and three assists in 13 appearances across all competitions before the match against Alaves.
Although he has not been a regular starter, the German forward has made useful contributions whenever given the opportunity. His ability to play in different attacking positions has also provided Flick with more options when selecting his frontline.
Barcelona will now hope Adeyemi continues to develop and maintain his impressive contributions throughout the season. The club will expect the German international to justify the decision to accelerate his transfer after Flick played a key role in bringing him to Camp Nou.
