According to a report by Metro on Sunday, November 8, 2026, former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has warned Arsenal's Premier League title challengers that Mikel Arteta's team could become even more difficult to stop despite not producing their best performances consistently this season.
Arsenal strengthened their position at the top of the Premier League table after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over Hull City at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Martin Odegaard scored the decisive goal in the 72nd minute to give the defending champions all three points and extend their advantage at the summit to six points.
The result took Arsenal's tally to 27 points from their opening 10 league matches, having recorded nine victories and suffered just one defeat.
Meanwhile, Manchester City dropped further behind after suffering a surprising defeat to Nottingham Forest, their third consecutive loss in the Premier League.
Speaking on Match of the Day, Murphy expressed concern for Arsenal's competitors, arguing that the Gunners' ability to collect points without consistently playing at their highest level makes them particularly dangerous.
The former England international pointed out that Arsenal had accumulated 27 points from a possible 30 despite struggling to dominate several of their matches this season.
He also highlighted their impressive performance against Chelsea as an example of what the north London club can produce when everything comes together.
Murphy further warned that Arsenal have considerable room for improvement as the campaign progresses, suggesting that their current position could become even stronger.
He maintained that Arteta's players were in an excellent position to defend their Premier League crown. Former England women's international Steph Houghton also praised Arsenal's development, pointing to the quality and depth available within Arteta's squad.
Houghton explained that the manager's long-term presence at the club has created stability, allowing players to understand their responsibilities and tactical roles.
She also highlighted the impact of summer recruitment, noting that the availability of quality substitutes such as Eberechi Eze and Mikel Merino gives Arsenal an additional advantage.
The Gunners will now turn their attention to a difficult run of fixtures, beginning with an away meeting against Newcastle United at St James' Park next weekend.
They will subsequently face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League before returning to Premier League action against Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal will hope to maintain their impressive form and strengthen their position in the title race during the demanding schedule.
