According to a report by Barca Universal on Wednesday October 21, 2026, Barcelona youngster Xavi Espart has revealed the team's mindset ahead of Sunday's El Clasico against Real Madrid, insisting that the Catalan side are ready to give everything to secure a positive result.
The young defender described the highly anticipated encounter as a "war" following Barcelona's 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the match in Paris, Espart stressed the importance of the upcoming clash and expressed his determination to help Barcelona gain points against their biggest rivals in the La Liga title race. "It'll be a war. We'll go all out; we have to give 100% and we've got the chance to take more points off them," he said.
"We'll fight to the bitter end," he added.
Barcelona will be looking to respond to their disappointing result against PSG when they welcome Real Madrid to the Spotify Camp Nou. The encounter presents Hansi Flick's side with an opportunity to make a statement in the title race.
Meanwhile, Espart has also spoken about the comparison between himself and former Germany international Philipp Lahm, which was made by Flick.
The Barcelona youngster has impressed with his versatility, having demonstrated the ability to operate at both left-back and right-back, as well as in midfield.
Espart welcomed the comparison with the former Bayern Munich defender but insisted that he wants to establish his own identity rather than follow another player's career.
"It's an honour to be compared with Philipp Lahm, but I try to carve my own career path," he said.
The youngster explained that his ability to play in different positions allows him to adapt to the team's tactical requirements.
"I can also play left-back, right-back, and in midfield. I'm a full-back who tends to cut inside," he added.
Lahm was renowned for his intelligence, positional awareness and versatility during his playing career, making the comparison a significant compliment for the Barcelona prospect.
Espart has also enjoyed a memorable period with Barcelona's first team, having scored his first Champions League goal during the defeat against PSG.
The teenager explained that the goal came after a one-two, and he did not hesitate when the opportunity presented itself.
"It all happened so quickly. I played a one-two and, when I saw I had the chance, I didn't think twice. In this stadium, against PSG in the Champions League, it's every boy's dream match," he said.
Reflecting on his progress, Espart added that he was delighted with his achievements at senior level.
"My first Champions League goal, two goals for the first team. I'm so happy – it's mad," he stated.
Despite the disappointment of the defeat in Paris, Espart will now turn his attention to the meeting with Real Madrid, where Barcelona will hope to deliver a strong performance in front of their supporters.
