World Cup Final And Third Place Results After Nigeria Defeat Asian Giant

According to a report by Flashscore on Saturday, November 7, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos have been crowned champions of the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup after defeating Japan 2-1 in the final, while Korea DPR secured third place with an emphatic 6-0 victory over Brazil.

Nigeria produced a historic performance against Japan at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Rabat, Morocco, to claim their first-ever title in the competition. The victory also made the Flamingos the first African team to win the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.

The final was an exciting contest, with Nigeria showing determination and attacking quality against an experienced Japanese side.

Awawu Bashiru opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 39th minute with an effort from outside the penalty area. Japan's goalkeeper, Kou Kadowaki, failed to handle the attempt cleanly, allowing the ball to cross the line and give the Flamingos a 1-0 lead.

Nigeria started the second half brilliantly and doubled their advantage just two minutes after the restart. Oluebube Umejiaku scored in the 47th minute, taking the score to 2-0 and putting the African representatives in a strong position.

Japan, however, continued fighting and eventually reduced the deficit through Fuki Ito in the 80th minute. The late goal made the closing stages more tense, but Nigeria defended resolutely to preserve their advantage and secure the trophy.

In the third-place playoff, Korea DPR delivered a dominant performance to defeat Brazil 6-0 and finish the tournament with the bronze medal.

Kim Won-sim opened the scoring in the 12th minute, while Ri Ui-gyong added another goal before half-time. Ri Ye-rim extended the advantage after the break, and Ri Ui-gyong completed her brace to make the score even more difficult for Brazil.

Yu Jong-hyang and Ri Kyong-im added further goals late in the encounter to complete the 6-0 victory. The result meant Brazil finished fourth, while Korea DPR claimed third place.

The two final-day results brought the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco to a memorable conclusion. Japan finished as runners-up, Nigeria lifted the championship trophy, Korea DPR secured third place, and Brazil settled for fourth.

For Nigeria, the triumph was particularly special because the Flamingos had started the competition with a 2-1 defeat against Poland. They responded with victories over Puerto Rico, Korea DPR, Mexico, Venezuela and Brazil before overcoming Japan in the final.

The six consecutive victories following their opening defeat completed one of the most remarkable campaigns in the tournament's history.

Nigeria have now achieved a historic milestone, bringing the first FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup title to Africa and giving the country another reason to celebrate its success in youth football.
