Nigeria's Flamingos delivered an impressive opening 45 minutes against Japan in the U-17 Women's World Cup final, heading into the halftime break with a 1-0 advantage in Rabat.
A post shared on the Super Falcons' official X account on Saturday, November 7, 2026, highlighted the team's performance, with three players particularly influential in Nigeria's first-half display.
1. Oluebube Umejiaku
Umejiaku troubled Japan's defence with her attacking runs and ability to create opportunities. Although she missed chances to find the net, her movement constantly stretched the opposition's backline and created openings for her teammates.
2. Queen Joseph
Joseph produced a disciplined performance, helping Nigeria maintain defensive control. She intercepted passes, made important challenges and supported attacking moves whenever opportunities arose.
3. Awawu Bashiru
Bashiru emerged as Nigeria's match-winner in the first half, converting a well-created opportunity to give the Flamingos the lead. The strike was her third goal of the tournament and provided Nigeria with a valuable advantage heading into the second half.
