According to a report from FootballTransfers, on Sunday November 01, 2026, Manchester United may have a clearer path to signing Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde in January, as the full-back continues to struggle for regular playing time.
United’s need for defensive reinforcements has grown after a 2-0 defeat to Chelsea extended their winless run to nine matches.
The loss left Michael Carrick’s side 17th in the table, above the relegation zone only on goal difference. Lisandro Martínez was also sent off, adding to the club’s defensive problems.
Injuries to Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu have further weakened United at left-back. Balde is reportedly among the players the club is considering, but the Barcelona youngster has made little impact in La Liga this season, recording just 101 minutes.
His prospects appeared uncertain again during Barcelona’s 6-1 win over Alavés.
Despite several defenders being unavailable, manager Hansi Flick did not start Balde, instead using midfielder Brian Farinas at right-back. Balde came on for the final 28 minutes.
Reports in Spain suggest the 22-year-old could seek a move in January, with his relationship with Flick said to be strained. Before the match, Flick said Balde was “lacking confidence” and needed to trust the team’s attacking approach more.
“He needs to regain his confidence so he can get back to performing at his best,” Flick said.
