According to a report by Football London on Sunday November 1, 2026, Moises Caicedo has received glowing praise from Chelsea teammates Jordan Henderson and Romeo Lavia, with both midfielders describing the Ecuadorian international as a world-class player despite his relatively quiet performance against Manchester United.
Chelsea returned to winning ways on Saturday with a convincing 2-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. Several players delivered impressive performances, helping Xabi Alonso ease the pressure following consecutive defeats against Tottenham and Liverpool.
Henderson missed the Manchester United encounter because of illness, forcing Alonso to introduce Lavia into the starting lineup. The Belgian midfielder had not started for Chelsea since before the international break but delivered an outstanding performance alongside Caicedo.
Although Caicedo has established an effective partnership with Henderson in Chelsea’s midfield, Lavia arguably stole the spotlight during the victory over Michael Carrick’s struggling side.
Morgan Rogers, Estevao, Josh Acheampong, Levi Colwill and goalkeeper Mike Penders also impressed, while Caicedo contributed a steady performance that received less attention than some of his teammates.
Speaking in Chelsea’s matchday programme before the game, Henderson highlighted Caicedo’s exceptional abilities and explained the importance of developing a strong understanding with the Ecuadorian.
“He’s a world-class midfielder, probably one of the best in the world in his position,” Henderson said, expressing admiration for his teammate’s quality.
The experienced midfielder added that building a strong relationship with Caicedo was important, describing him as an incredible player who made playing alongside him considerably easier.
Lavia shared similar sentiments after the final whistle, emphasising the understanding between the pair and his appreciation of their partnership.
“Moi is a world-class player, and I’m very happy to be playing alongside him,” Lavia explained, praising Caicedo’s quality and their developing connection in midfield.
However, Caicedo’s performance against United was not among his strongest displays for Chelsea. Lavia produced an exceptional showing, regularly intercepting opposition attacks, distributing accurate passes and helping control the midfield battle.
The Belgian also assisted Rogers’ opening goal after recovering possession, demonstrating his defensive awareness and ability to contribute offensively.
Caicedo covered approximately 9.5 kilometres, ranking joint-seventh among Chelsea players in distance travelled. Having featured against Liverpool earlier in the week, fatigue may have affected his overall performance.
He contested ten duels, winning six and losing four, while recording four defensive contributions. Lavia significantly outperformed him in that category, registering 23 defensive contributions throughout the match.
Nevertheless, Caicedo maintained impressive passing accuracy, completing 95 per cent of his passes and helping Chelsea retain possession effectively.
Despite receiving a respectable FotMob rating of 7.2, he ranked ninth among Chelsea’s starting players.
However, with Lavia delivering such an influential performance, Caicedo’s quieter display did little to diminish his importance to Chelsea’s midfield or the high regard in which his teammates hold him.
