Premier League Table And Match Review After Saturday Fixtures

According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday October 24, 2026, Chelsea suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Tottenham in their Premier League London derby at Stamford Bridge, after a goalless first half, with late goals ultimately deciding the fiercely contested encounter.

Both sides started cautiously, although Tottenham gradually established control of possession and created dangerous opportunities through Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel and Omar Marmoush, testing Chelsea's defensive organisation throughout the opening period.

Chelsea responded through Cole Palmer, Morgan Rogers and Jordan Henderson, but their attacking efforts lacked precision. Pedro Neto also threatened before Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky produced important saves, ensuring the teams remained level.

Tottenham continued applying pressure after the interval, while Chelsea struggled to convert promising positions into goals. James Maddison suffered an injury and was replaced by Conor Gallagher, changing Tottenham's midfield options.

Chelsea introduced fresh players, including Estêvão, hoping to improve their attacking threat. The Brazilian winger nearly equalised after receiving Jordan Henderson's pass inside the penalty area, but his effort narrowly missed the target.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 77th minute when Tottenham benefited from an unfortunate own goal involving Chelsea goalkeeper Mike Penders, handing the visitors a crucial advantage during the closing stages.

Chelsea's afternoon deteriorated further when Cole Palmer received a second yellow card in the 80th minute and was sent off, leaving the hosts with ten players as Tottenham increased their attacking pressure.

Mathys Tel subsequently delivered a spectacular finish in the 87th minute, skipping past defenders before firing a long-range strike into the bottom-left corner, doubling Tottenham's advantage and strengthening their grip on the match.

Chelsea attempted to respond, but Tottenham defended effectively during stoppage time. Despite seven additional minutes, the hosts failed to find a breakthrough, allowing the visitors to secure an impressive away victory.
