Iheanacho's scoring streak comes to an end

According to a report by The Punch on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Kelechi Iheanacho’s impressive goalscoring run has come to an end after the Nigerian striker failed to score in Bursaspor’s 3-0 victory over Bandirmaspor on Saturday. Despite missing out on another goal, the 29-year-old forward helped his team maintain their strong form in the Turkish First League.

Iheanacho faced a difficult afternoon at the Atatürk Spor Kompleksi Matlı Stadyumu, where Bandirmaspor’s defenders kept a close watch on him throughout the encounter. Their defensive approach limited his opportunities to add to his growing goalscoring record, bringing an end to a remarkable run that had attracted attention across Turkish football.

The former Leicester City and Manchester City striker had also faced concerns over his fitness ahead of the match. He picked up a knock during Bursaspor’s 4-2 win over Ankara Keçiörengücü, raising questions about whether he would be available for the next fixture. However, after two days of rest, he returned to full training with his teammates and was declared fit to play against Bandirmaspor.

Although he did not score, Iheanacho remains among the most productive attackers in the division. He has recorded 16 goals and three assists, showing the important role he has played in Bursaspor’s campaign so far.

His goalscoring run reached a historic level on October 15 when he scored against Muğlaspor to register his tenth consecutive appearance with a goal. That achievement set a new record for the longest scoring streak in Turkish football history. He later extended the run by scoring against Pendikspor on October 19 and finding the net again against Ankara Keçiörengücü six days later.

However, his failure to score against Bandirmaspor brought the streak to an end after 12 consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, Iheanacho’s performances in Turkey could improve his chances of returning to the Super Eagles squad. Nigeria are preparing for next month’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Tanzania, with head coach Eric Chelle expected to announce his selection within the next seven days.

The striker has yet to play a competitive match for Nigeria since Chelle became head coach. Nevertheless, his goalscoring form at club level could put him in contention for a recall. Iheanacho will now hope to continue producing strong performances for Bursaspor and make a convincing case for another opportunity with the national team.
