According to a report by Barca Universal on Saturday, October 31, 2026, Marc-Andre ter Stegen is reportedly enjoying an encouraging spell at Ajax after joining the Dutch side on loan from Barcelona during the summer, with Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare joking that the goalkeeper's remarkable displays in training sometimes leave him frustrated.
The German shot-stopper opted to leave Barcelona in pursuit of consistent playing time after losing his place in Hansi Flick's plans to Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny. His switch to Ajax has offered him an opportunity to get his career back on track.
In an interview with Belgian publication Het Laatste Nieuws, Arokodare spoke about working alongside the former Barcelona skipper and acknowledged his exceptional goalkeeping abilities. The Nigerian striker jokingly explained how frustrating it can be to face someone capable of making so many impressive saves.
"Ter Stegen drives me crazy during training. Sometimes it's incredibly frustrating to see him keep saving so many shots. It makes you want to punch him!" the forward said.
Arokodare's remarks reflect the high standard Ter Stegen has maintained since moving to the Netherlands. The 34-year-old has made 13 appearances for Ajax across all competitions, registering three clean sheets and conceding 19 goals.
The move to Amsterdam provides another chance for the goalkeeper to rebuild his career after experiencing difficulties during his final period at Barcelona. He initially joined Girona on loan in January, but an injury suffered shortly after his arrival prevented him from enjoying a consistent run of matches.
At Ajax, Ter Stegen has reunited with Michel, who previously coached him at Girona. The German will be hoping to make the most of this opportunity, as strong performances could increase his transfer value and improve his chances of securing a permanent move away from Barcelona next summer.
Although his current contract with Barcelona runs until 2028, the Spanish club are reportedly monitoring his development at Ajax. His performances could influence their decision to bring his time at the club to a permanent end after the current campaign.
