The Catalan side peppered the visitors' net

Barcelona made history on Saturday, hammering visitors Deportivo Alavés 6-1 at the Spotify Camp Nou in the 11th round of the Spanish league.

The win took Barça to 46 goals in their first 11 La Liga rounds, a tally no side had managed since Sevilla matched it in the 1940-1941 season, according to French network "Stats Foot".

That crushing 6-1 result lifted Barça to 30 points at the top of the La Liga table, two clear of runners-up Atlético Madrid and six ahead of third-placed Real Madrid, who visit Racing Santander tomorrow in the same round.

Raphinha struck twice and Lamine Yamal added another brace, with Fermín López and Anthony Gordon completing the rout.

The timing could hardly have been better. Barcelona had come into the match desperate to bounce back from defeats to Paris Saint-Germain (4-2) and Real Madrid (2-1). Now they turn their attention to Tuesday, when they host England's Aston Villa in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League.
