According to a report by FootballTransfers on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Chelsea are scouting potential replacements for Malo Gusto as uncertainty continues to surround the right-back's future at Stamford Bridge ahead of a possible departure in 2027.
The Blues are reportedly searching across Europe for an "elite-level" right-back as they prepare for the possibility of losing the France international.
Gusto joined Chelsea from Lyon in 2023 and has since become an important member of the squad. However, his playing time has declined this season under head coach Xabi Alonso, raising questions about his long-term role at the club.
Chelsea were reportedly prepared to consider offers of around €90 million for the 23-year-old during the summer transfer window. Liverpool and Manchester City were both linked with the defender, but neither club made a direct approach.
His estimated market value has since fallen, with FootballTransfers currently placing his Expected Transfer Value at €53.1 million. Chelsea are also understood to be considering lowering their asking price next year if they decide to sell him.
Gusto has started just five matches across all competitions this season and has featured for only two minutes in Chelsea's last three Premier League games.
Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly monitoring his situation, although the defender is said to be happy at Stamford Bridge for now.
Transfer reporter Dean Jones revealed that Chelsea are conducting scouting missions across Europe to identify suitable candidates in case Gusto leaves the club.
Alonso already has several options at right-back, including captain Reece James, summer signing Marco Palestra and academy graduate Josh Acheampong. Pedro Neto has also performed well when deployed as a right wing-back this season.
Gusto's contract runs until 2030, giving Chelsea a strong negotiating position if interested clubs make offers for the defender.
His experience could prove valuable if Chelsea qualify for European competition next season, when the fixture schedule is expected to become more demanding. However, the development of young defender Genesis Antwi during his loan spell at sister club Strasbourg could also influence the club's plans for the position.
