Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has explained Monnapule Saleng’s reintegration into the team after the winger made his first appearance of the season in the club’s 1-0 victory over Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout.
Saleng’s appearance marked an important step in his return to action, with the winger getting an opportunity to feature for Sundowns after being absent from the team’s matches earlier in the season.
The former Orlando Pirates player joined Sundowns with expectations of adding creativity, pace and attacking quality to the squad. His return to the pitch could provide the technical team with another option as the club continues to compete in domestic competitions.
Cardoso’s comments on Saleng’s reintegration have drawn attention to the process of bringing the winger back into the team and helping him settle into the squad. Reintegration can involve several considerations, including a player’s readiness, adaptation to the team’s approach and the coach’s plans for the available squad.
Saleng’s first appearance came during Sundowns’ narrow victory over Marumo Gallants in the Carling Knockout. The Brazilians secured a 1-0 win, allowing them to progress in the competition while giving the winger an opportunity to return to competitive action.
His involvement will also give supporters an opportunity to assess how he fits into Cardoso’s plans. Sundowns have a strong squad, and competition for places means players must take advantage of the opportunities they receive.
For Saleng, the immediate priority will be to build on his return and work towards earning more playing time. Consistent performances in training and matches could help him strengthen his position within the team.
However, his first appearance does not automatically guarantee a regular starting role. Cardoso will have to consider the winger’s progress alongside the needs of the team as Sundowns continue their campaign.
