Golden Arrows head coach Mandla Ncikazi has drawn attention with comments about family privacy and the need to speak about people with respect.
Ncikazi, who recently returned to Abafana Bes'thende after five years at Orlando Pirates, said he does not believe in exposing the struggles of families or individuals to the public. He used a well-known saying to explain his point. "Every house has a toilet. As a man, you don't tell people about the challenges your family has," he said. The meaning is easy to follow. Every family deals with problems behind closed doors, and those problems do not need to become public talk.
He also said he would never speak badly about anyone. That suggests he values discretion and believes people should be treated with dignity, even when there are disagreements or hard feelings.
The remarks have stirred interest because of the timing. Ncikazi's move away from Orlando Pirates and back to Golden Arrows was one of the bigger coaching stories in the local game. The 57-year-old spent five years with the Buccaneers as part of a technical team that won several domestic trophies and the league title, and helped take the club into major continental competitions.
Returning to Golden Arrows gives him a chance to build on earlier work at the club. In his previous spell, he led the Durban side to fourth place in the Premiership in the 2020/21 season, the highest league finish in their history.
Now he has to rebuild the squad and make the team competitive again in South African football.
His comments have also reached beyond the football pitch. They touch on privacy, loyalty and the way people handle sensitive family matters in public. For Ncikazi, the message is simple: personal and family difficulties should not be used as ammunition against anyone.
Recent coverage by SABC Sport and iDiski Times gives background on his return to Golden Arrows. The family-related quote has not been independently verified in those reports.
