Mamelodi Sundowns are keen to retain Marcelo Allende as part of their long-term plans, with head coach Miguel Cardoso making it clear that the club values the Chilean midfielder and is prepared to make efforts to keep him at Chloorkop.
Allende has established himself as an important member of the Sundowns squad through his technical ability, work rate and contribution to the team's midfield. His qualities have made him a valuable option for the coaching staff, particularly in a team that places considerable emphasis on possession, movement and control of matches.
The midfielder's ability to operate in different midfield roles also gives Sundowns an advantage. He can contribute defensively, help move the ball forward and create opportunities for attacking players. His versatility and understanding of the team's playing philosophy make him an important asset.
His importance has also been reflected in his contribution since arriving from Uruguayan side Montevideo City Torque in 2022. He has recorded 16 goals and 16 assists in 177 appearances for the Tshwane-based club, demonstrating his influence beyond his midfield responsibilities.
However, keeping the 27-year-old will not necessarily be straightforward. His contract situation has attracted attention, with reports indicating that his current agreement is approaching its final months. There have also been suggestions that clubs elsewhere could become interested in securing his services.
Sundowns will therefore have to consider their options if they want to prevent one of their established midfielders from leaving. A contract extension would provide stability and allow the technical team to continue building around players familiar with its approach.
Allende's future remains an important matter for the club, particularly given his experience and consistent contributions over the past few seasons. For now, his situation will depend on whether both parties can reach an agreement over a new deal.
