Former Kaizer Chiefs attacking midfielder Mthokozisi Yende was once a big favourite among supporters, but he has stayed largely out of the public eye since he retired from football.
This week, the man known as "Tembisa Express" during his playing days gave fans a rare look at his life today. On Monday, he posted a series of recent photos on his official Instagram account. The pictures were taken at a popular hangout spot and show a quiet, private lifestyle far from the attention he once received at Chiefs.
The 42-year-old was born in Tembisa. He wore the club's number 10 jersey, a shirt that carries a lot of history at Chiefs and is often linked with creative midfielders. His time at the club came to an abrupt end, and he later dropped out of the football scene. It has been reported that this followed a relationship with a woman said to be his boss' mistress, although the details have not been confirmed here.
In the caption to his photos, Yende wrote: "Grateful for where I'm at, excited about where I'm going. Love wins." The message suggests he is at peace with life after football and is looking ahead.
Yende has not been seen much since leaving the game. At one of his most recent public appearances, he was spotted with his eyes on his cellphone. That is one reason the new photos have drawn attention, as fans have had very little news about him in recent years.
For many Chiefs supporters, the post is a welcome reminder of a player who once lit up the PSL with his skill in the attacking midfield role.
