Kaizer Chiefs legend Doctor Khumalo has returned to Naturena Village to seek the blessings of club chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung following his appointment as vice-chairperson of the South African Football Association’s (SAFA) Technical Committee.

The visit highlights the lasting relationship between Khumalo, affectionately known as “16V”, and the club that played a significant role in shaping his illustrious football career. For many Amakhosi supporters, his return to Naturena represents a special moment, demonstrating that his connection with the Soweto giants remains strong despite his new responsibilities in South African football administration.

Khumalo’s appointment was confirmed following a meeting of SAFA’s newly elected National Executive Committee in Sandton. He will serve as deputy to Technical Committee chairperson Jack Maluleke, joining a structure responsible for addressing important technical matters affecting South African football.

The committee plays a significant role in evaluating national team performances, supporting coaching development, identifying promising talent and making recommendations regarding national team coaches. Khumalo’s experience as a former professional footballer, coach and football analyst could prove valuable as he begins this new chapter.

The former Bafana Bafana international was part of the historic South African squad that won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations on home soil. That achievement remains one of the most celebrated moments in the country's football history, and Khumalo continues to enjoy considerable respect among supporters.

Following his appointment, Khumalo expressed gratitude to those who supported his journey, including Motaung, Orlando Pirates chairman Irvin Khoza, SAFA president Danny Jordaan and his family.

His return to Naturena also highlights the importance of recognising the people and institutions that contribute to a footballer's development. Seeking Motaung’s blessings reflects the respect Khumalo continues to hold for the Chiefs chairman.

As he assumes his new responsibilities, expectations will be high for Khumalo to contribute his knowledge and experience towards developing coaches, nurturing talent and strengthening South African football.

For Amakhosi supporters, the visit serves as another reminder of the enduring bond between Doctor Khumalo and Kaizer Chiefs.
