Kaizer Chiefs Handed Chance to Sign Bafana Bafana Winger Elias Mokwana for Free
Kaizer Chiefs have reportedly been handed an opportunity to sign Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana on a free transfer following his departure from Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis, potentially providing the Soweto giants with an opportunity to strengthen their attacking options.
According to SABC Sport journalist Mazola Molefe, Mokwana has been offered to Amakhosi after becoming a free agent. The development could attract the attention of head coach Fernando Da Cruz, who continues to assess his squad as Chiefs look to improve their performances this season.
Mokwana's availability presents an attractive opportunity for Chiefs because they would not have to pay a transfer fee to secure his services. However, the club would still need to agree on personal terms with the player before any potential deal could be completed.
"Free agent, no transfer fees, just personal terms. Chiefs can lock this one in if they want to," Molefe reported.
The winger's future became uncertain after his proposed move to Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club reportedly collapsed because of registration complications. The setback has left the South African international exploring alternative options as he seeks a new club.
Chiefs could be a possible destination, particularly because they were previously interested in Mokwana before he joined Espérance from Sekhukhune United in 2024.
The 26-year-old made a name for himself in the Premier Soccer League through his pace, direct attacking runs and ability to trouble defenders in wide areas. His experience in Tunisia could also offer valuable qualities to a Chiefs side seeking greater attacking variety.
For Da Cruz, signing another winger could provide additional tactical flexibility and increase competition for places in the attacking department.
However, Mokwana being offered to the club does not guarantee a move to Naturena. Chiefs must first determine whether he fits their recruitment plans and financial considerations.
As things stand, no official agreement has been announced. Amakhosi supporters will be watching developments closely as the club considers whether to pursue the Bafana Bafana winger.
