Jomo Sono Shares His Views on Chiefs Star Shabalala

Jomo Sono Supports Kaizer Chiefs Midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala Ahead of Soweto Derby

South African football icon Jomo Sono has voiced his support for Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Mduduzi Shabalala, encouraging the young player to reach his potential ahead of the much-anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates.

The former Pirates star believes Shabalala has exciting qualities, despite facing criticism regarding parts of his game. His remarks added an intriguing angle to the buildup for Saturday's significant match at FNB Stadium.

Sono, known for his substantial influence on South African football, recognizes the challenges players face at the highest level. His positive view of Shabalala is particularly significant given his deep ties to Orlando Pirates, one of the Chiefs' main rivals.

Ahead of the derby, Sono pointed out Shabalala's knack for creating scoring chances, emphasizing that this aspect should be valued when assessing his contributions to the team. "What I appreciate about Shabalala is that he creates chances. I prefer a player who generates opportunities over one who merely runs around the pitch for 90 minutes without making an impact," Sono stated, as reported by KickOff.

His comments come as Shabalala garners attention from fans and analysts who see his potential to evolve into one of South Africa's leading attacking players. Although there are questions about his decision-making and overall effectiveness, Sono believes there is much to admire in his playing style.

The legendary striker also mentioned that luck plays a crucial role in helping talented players convert their skills into consistent performances. "But Shabalala, he is the future, that boy. The only thing he needs is a bit of luck. You need luck in football to excel," Sono remarked.

This encouragement from Sono comes as Shabalala gears up for one of the toughest matches in South African football. The Soweto Derby presents him with a chance to showcase his talents against a Pirates team that has been performing well lately.

Sono also highlighted other promising players at Chiefs, including Mfundo Vilakazi and Wandile Duba, praising their abilities and potential impact. Vilakazi has gained attention for his technical skill, while Duba furthered his case for recognition by scoring a hat trick against TS Galaxy in the Carling Knockout Cup earlier this week.

The rise of these players offers Chiefs more attacking options as head coach Fernando Da Cruz aims to build a competitive squad capable of pursuing major titles. In contrast, Pirates will enter the derby eager to sustain their strong form under coach Abdeslam Ouaddou.

For Shabalala, the task will be to translate Sono's positive comments into a standout performance on the field. With pride and crucial league points on the line, he will be among the players to watch as South Africa's two football giants clash at FNB Stadium.
