Richards Bay FC are reportedly considering the future of head coach Dimitar Pantev after a difficult start to his time at the KwaZulu-Natal club. Reports published on 2 November 2026 said club management was discussing the situation, with further talks expected to determine what happens next. Pantev’s position remains uncertain, and no final decision is stated in the report.
The Bulgarian coach joined Richards Bay in September after Ronnie Gabriel resigned on 21 September following a poor start to the season. Pantev, 50, arrived with experience from clubs including Gaborone United in Botswana, Simba SC in Tanzania and Jwaneng Galaxy. He also led Gaborone United to the 2024–25 Botswana Premier League title, raising hopes that he could help improve Richards Bay’s form.
Instead, his first three matches ended in defeat. Richards Bay lost 4–1 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the Carling Knockout Cup, then suffered 3–1 losses to Sekhukhune United and Kruger United. Across those games, the team conceded 10 goals and scored three.
The results add to a difficult campaign for the Natal Rich Boyz. The club had yet to win any of its first nine league matches and was at the bottom of the Betway Premiership standings. It had also lost six consecutive games in all competitions, increasing pressure on the coaching staff and the club’s leadership.
There are reported factors that may have affected Pantev’s start. Delays in securing a work visa meant he could not immediately take charge from the touchline. He has also spoken about the challenge of taking over a squad assembled by another coach, noting that players and staff need time to adjust to a new approach.
That context may weigh on the club’s decision. Richards Bay must consider whether to make another coaching change or give Pantev more time to introduce his methods and work with the squad. The team’s results and progress in the coming weeks are likely to play an important role, but the available information does not confirm what the club will decide.
A departure after such a short period would create further change for a club already seeking stability. For now, the focus is on whether Richards Bay can halt its run of defeats and improve its position in the league.
