Former Manchester United midfielder Quinton Fortune has urged the Premier League club to make an ambitious move for Harry Kane, insisting that the England striker has the qualities needed to strengthen their attack.
Speaking to BoyleSports, Fortune argued that United should not allow Kane’s age to discourage them from pursuing his signature.
“He’s not young, but given what he's achieved, Man Utd should go and sign Harry Kane as soon as possible, whatever it takes. He is exactly what they need,” Fortune said.
The former United player believes Kane’s goalscoring ability would address the club’s need for a recognised centre-forward. He also stressed that the striker would be particularly effective if supplied with regular scoring opportunities. ‘don’t wait’
However, bringing Kane to Old Trafford could prove difficult. The 33-year-old currently plays for Bayern Munich, where he has continued to deliver impressive goalscoring performances since joining from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023. FC Bayern Munich +1
Reports published last week indicated that Kane had agreed in principle to extend his Bayern contract until 2029, although the formal paperwork was still being finalised. Bayern have also made clear their desire to retain the striker. Sky Sports +1
Those developments make a Manchester United move challenging, particularly if the German champions complete the extension. United would likely need Kane to reconsider his future, alongside an agreement with Bayern, for the transfer to become realistic.
Fortune’s comments have nevertheless added to the discussion about whether United should pursue an experienced, proven goalscorer rather than focus exclusively on younger attacking options.
For now, the suggestion remains an opinion from the former United midfielder rather than confirmation that a transfer is being negotiated.
